Ten Years

In honor of my brother, who we lost ten terribly long and tenderly short years ago.

You hugged me tight
At least a head taller
You rested on my shoulder all the same

Movies we watched that night
Our last memories
Would we have chosen them again?
Magicians and comedians
Meaningless but fitting
It was hilarity and magic, us three

So much has changed
This town, our names
Not sure what you’d recognize
About this place
Anymore

I’ve lived so long without you now
I still wonder how

how

To leave you on that day
And keep on living
Hours and days keep edging their way
Between us

Still hope pushes through
We await reunion
But celebrate redemption
At every turn
A billion reasons to go on

Like the sparkle of my sons eyes
And his spirit and his name
that remind me of you
(I know you’d adore him too)

Still I’ll never forget

You hugged me tight
At least a head taller
You rested on my shoulder all the same
